The traditional loom is a heritage tool that was used in the past to create various products such as rugs, carpets, shawls, and upholstery fabrics, among others. With modernization, this craft has declined to the point of near extinction. In an effort to revive it and introduce the younger generation and women interested in learning it, Professional Metn Al-A'la, in collaboration with Nabil Saad for Arts, offered two workshops on loom weaving during the year 2022.
The first workshop took place in May 2022 as part of the "Tarf Al-Khayt" initiative launched by the artist Nabil Saad from his studio in Broummana - Mount Lebanon. As part of this initiative, he also developed a new simplified loom that is affordable and easy to use, which was used for the training workshops.
Following the positive feedback from the first workshop, we conducted a second workshop in August 2022.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the artist Nabil Saad for his dedication to the history and heritage of Lebanon through his initiative "Tarf Al-Khayt" (The Thread's End). We are also grateful to all the participants for their keenness to master this craft.
This course was offered by:
The founder and president of Nabil Saad Professional Arts in Broummana, a visual artist Nabil Saad, at the headquarters of The Higher Metn Artisan Foundation- Ras El Metn.
